PI Energy was founded to develop a next-generation of solar photovoltaic (PV) materials, using plasmonically driven nano-scale structured photonic materials.
The new approach taken by PI Energy utilizes plasmonic resonating nano-scale structures. After the Company successfully demonstrated its proof-of-concept prototype, multiple applications in markets outside solar energy became apparent. PI Energy has developed a technology platform that converts light into usable energy and enables new classes of commercializable materials across several markets.
On average, human civilization currently consumes about 18 terawatts of power, mostly from fossil fuels. About 89,000 terawatts of solar power reach the surface of the earth, making it the most abundant renewable energy source.
